อาคารชั้นเดียวสีเหลืองนวล ก่ออิฐถือปูนยกพื้นสูง หลังคาทรงปั้นหยา มีความสวยงามร่วมสมัย โดดเด่นอยู่บนถนนเขื่อนธานี อาคารพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งนี้ ถือเป็นอาคารที่มีคุณค่าทางสถาปัตยกรรมและเป็นอนุสรณ์สถานที่สำคัญแห่งหนึ่งของจังหวัดอุบลราชธานี ได้รับรางวัลอาคารอนุรักษ์ศิลปกรรมดีเด่นในปี 2532 และกรมศิลปากรยังได้ประกาศขึ้นทะเบียนเป็นโบราณสถาน เมื่อปี 2544
ก่อนหน้าใช้งานเป็นศาลากลางจังหวัด และถูกผลัดเปลี่ยนเป็นพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ อุบลราชธานี เมื่อปี 2532 ด้านในจัดแสดงนิทรรศการถาวร เกี่ยวกับเรื่องราวของท้องถิ่น ทั้งในด้านภูมิศาสตร์ ธรณีวิทยา พัฒนาการทางประวัติศาสตร์ โบราณคดี และชาติพันธุ์วิทยา ตัวอาคารสามารถเดินชมได้โดยรอบ ประมาณ 10 ห้อง และมีการจัดแสดงภายนอกอาคารด้วย
นิทรรศการจัดแสดงข้อมูลและหลักฐานทางโบราณคดี จะได้เห็นโบราณวัตถุในสมัยก่อนประวัติศาสตร์ที่พบในเขตจังหวัดอุบลราชธานี อย่างเช่น เครื่องมือหิน กลองมโหระทึก ภาชนะดินเผา ภาพเขียนสีจำลองจากแหล่งภาพเขียนสีผาแต้ม ซึ่งเป็นแหล่งภาพเขียนสีที่สำคัญในเขตอำเภอโขงเจียม
และยังมีห้องจัดแสดงวัฒนธรรมขอมสมัยเมืองพระนคร วัฒนธรรมทวารวดี วัฒนธรรมเจนละ วัฒนธรรมไทย – ลาว เครื่องดนตรี ผ้าโบราณและผ้าพื้นเมืองอุบลราชธานี ซึ่งทั้งหมดนี้สามารถเข้าชมในรูปแบบ Virtual Tour ผ่านเว็บไซต์ http://www.virtualmuseum.finearts.go.th/ ได้เช่นกัน
พิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ อุบลราชธานี ไม่ได้เป็นเพียงแค่สถานที่จัดแสดงโบราณวัตถุหรือเรื่องราวในอดีต แต่ยังเป็นประตูสู่การเรียนรู้รากเหง้าของภาคอีสาน ผ่านสถาปัตยกรรมเก่าแก่และนิทรรศการที่เต็มไปด้วยเรื่องราวทรงคุณค่า ไม่ว่าจะเป็นสายประวัติศาสตร์ รักศิลปวัฒนธรรม หรือแค่อยากลองเปิดมุมมองใหม่ๆ ให้กับการเดินทาง ที่นี่จะทำให้เข้าใจอุบลราชธานีในมุมที่ลึกซึ้งยิ่งขึ้น

A single-story building with a radiant yellow hue, constructed of brick and mortar on a raised platform, featuring a hip roof, exudes a timeless beauty. Prominently located on Khuean Thani Road, this museum building is considered an architecturally valuable and significant landmark of Ubon Ratchathani Province. It received the Outstanding Architectural Conservation Award in 1989, and the Fine Arts Department registered it as a historical site in 2001.
Previously serving as the provincial hall, it was transformed into the Ubon Ratchathani National Museum in 1989. Inside, permanent exhibitions showcase local stories, including geography, geology, historical development, archaeology, and ethnology. The building can be explored in its entirety, with approximately 10 rooms and outdoor exhibits.
Exhibitions display archaeological data and evidence, featuring prehistoric artifacts found in Ubon Ratchathani Province, such as stone tools, bronze drums, pottery, and replicas of rock paintings from Pha Taem, a significant rock art site in Khong Chiam District.
Additionally, there are exhibition rooms dedicated to Khmer culture from the Angkor period, Dvaravati culture, Chenla culture, Thai-Laos culture, musical instruments, antique textiles, and Ubon Ratchathani’s local fabrics.
